I'm originally from Appleton, WI but went to college and currently live in Minneapolis, MN. I moved to the east coast for my graduate program to become a Physician Assistant but moved back to the midwest shortly after to be around friends and family. When not working I enjoy being downtown in the heart of the city; cycling, volleyball, camping, hiking in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. And there will be days I sport a Green Bay Packers t-shirt under my scrubs!

12 years of experience in healthcare administration while practicing Bariatric Surgery with additional board certification in Bariatric Medicine. As Director of Quality Assurance, I was solely responsible for the development of the clinic and ambulatory surgery center policy and procedures. After two years of development and strict adherence to federal, state, and industry guidelines I was able to achieve certification by AAAHC, AAAASF, MBSAQIP, Washington Department of Health, Medicare, and Surgical Review Committee, leading to nomination of our practice and surgeons as a Center of Excellence. Key to this acknowledgement was the development of a rigorous Quality Assurance Program which included regular peer-review, prospective collection of outcomes data, quarterly performance improvement projects, and board-level review of incidents and adverse outcomes. To prepare myself for the role of Director of Bariatric Medicine, I pursued a second Board Certification in Bariatric Medicine. Henceforth I developed and managed a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary Medical Weight Loss Program and developed skills of project management, revenue cycles, and marketing. In our first year of operation we brought in 500 patients. In my spare time, I designed, managed, and published multiple clinical research studies. Recently I started a consulting business providing medical-legal and industry consulting. I harness my in-depth understand of medicine and healthcare management to consult with hospitals on how to improve their compliance, develop quality assurance programs, and patient outcomes while streamlining operations.
I have practiced for forty years as both a Board Certified Family Practice doctor with the last ten years as a Board Certified Geriatrics specialist. I also hold Board Certifications in Pain Management and Disability Evaluations. During my years as a Family Doctor, I also practiced Integrative Medicine including Chelation Therapy, IV vitamin therapy, nutritional and herbal medicine, and Ayurvedic Medicine. As an Osteopathic Physician, I also utilized Osteopathic structural medicine in my practice. For the past three years, I served as Medical Director of a Physical Therapy center.

I am a part-time independent medical consultant for inpatient and outpatient special medical cases in the US and abroad. After many years of a very busy, successful, and rewarding career in academic and clinical medicine, I steered my attention towards the more remote and isolated patients in need of medical care. Many cases I take on a humanitarian basis and others based on the complexity of the situation. I also spend time advancing on the education of patients, their families, and my children. I strongly believe in the comprehensive and compassionate care of individuals and their communities. I hold an impeccable professional and personal record. I solidified my clinician experience as a full-time clinical consultant in Hospital (Inpatient) Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for over a decade, fully certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (2003-2013, fully eligible for re-certification). I practiced under the Division of Hospital Internal Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine. Throughout the many years of extensive and intensive training and practice, I accrued a broad range of knowledge and expertise diagnosing and managing highly complex medical patients—globally and at many levels. Moreover, I was recognized—for many years in a row—as one of Mayo Clinic’s top educators: that is, excelling not only in clinical work but also in preparing the newer generations of superb clinicians for the US and the rest of the world. I have also been recognized by consumer organizations as an outstanding physician in the US. Above all, my biggest satisfactions come from my duty to humbly, kindly, and with great compassion and generosity serve the patients and their families. My clinical training included a two-year Fellowship in Inpatient (Hospital) Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic with high-demand rotations through the Anesthesia, Surgery, Medicine, and Cardiology Intensive Care Units—and through their respective general wards. I also worked directly with the Infectious Diseases consult service, the Electrocardiography lab, the Preoperative evaluation clinic, and the Skilled Nurse Facility. I participated in educational programs as a lecturer and as an Assistant Professor of Medicine teaching medical students, allied health professionals, interns, residents, and peers. Of even greater importance, my teaching skills have been extended to the education of the patients and their families concerning their disease process and their health care. I successfully completed my three-year categorical program in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. My responsibilities as a house officer included urgent handling of patients in the Emergency Room, full patient work-up and care in the wards, critical patient management in both the Cardiology and Pulmonary Medicine Intensive Care Units, patient evaluations through the different sub-specialty consult services, and patient follow-up in the ambulatory care clinics. During this residency I acquired a solid foundation in clinical medicine at the different levels of care and I secured a strong affection for the various sub-specialties. Most importantly, this training under remarkable clinical mentors enhanced my ability to listen to the patients, understand their needs, and care for them beyond the textbooks. My research training in infectious diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland produced several publications. At a personal level, I also sustain an interest in world cultures, history, and geography. In summary, my work along with exploring, building, hiking, cooking, and appreciating art in all its forms--in concert with my family--define my happiness in life.
Please refer to my CV - I emailed it to Jolene. Retired from the ER in 2012 after illness. Also was Assoc. Med Director of a wound care company from 2008 - 2016. Internal Medicine Physician
Internal Medicine is fun to practice because it involves figuring out the problem and then fashioning a solution for an individual. I like the full spectrum and particularly enjoy taking care of diabetes (type 1 or 2), treating acute conditions and preventing complications from hypertension, diabetes and obesity. I enjoy helping individuals age gracefully, and minimizing the effects of immune disease. I enjoy helping individual beat opioid addiction and helping type 1 mothers have a healthy pregnancy outcome. I've been at the same job for 25 years and organization bought into a slow electronic medical record system so I'm looking at free lance opportunities My non-medicine interests include family, bird-watching, and playing guitar. My geographic interests are in Utah where I have a licence but am interested in freelancing where the birding is good. I would also have interest in serving under-served communities.

I am a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist (physiatrist), with extensive experience in inpatient rehabilitation and medical directorships. I have been a medical director for acute inpatient rehab facilities and/or skilled care units since 1999. This has afforded me the opportunity to participate in not only the medical aspect of care, but also the administrative side, including program improvement projects, establishment and monitoring of key performance indicators, and utilization review.
